So, you can't quite figure out what gift to give MOM this year for Mother's Day?
Well, I have the gift that will really tickle her fancy.
I have put together a flower gift box that uses those wonderful colorful storage boxes you see at Marshall's, TJ Maxx and Joann's along with fresh flowers and gift items. I went bananas one day and grabbed up a bunch of those gorgeous boxes. They are so pretty and very affordable.
I didn't pay more than $10 for any one of them. Usually they are used to store shoes, lingerie and keepsakes in.
I keep one on top of my dresser to hold some of my pretty scarves.
The box is too special and lovely to store away where it can't be seen.
The first step is to find the storage gift box that MOM will love. Something feminine, flowery and soft or ...........wild and bright and crazy just like YOUR MOM ! It should be deep enough to accommodate the gifts you want to include besides the flowers. I would suggest clear sealed and wrapped cookies, chocolates, or other assorted candy. Everything has to be wrapped securely so that it won't get soggy or stale from the fresh flowers that are included.
If you buy from the bakery, you can enclose the pastries in those adorable clear cello bags you can get at a cake baking and candy supply or at the Dollar Tree.
If you want to do a themed box here are some suggestions:
Boxed or tin enclosed teas
Pretty tea cup and saucer
Coffee Lover Box-
Chocolate dipped spoon
Scented room spray
Decorative Hairpins or Clips
Wine Enthusiast Box-
Crystal Wine Glass
I started by gathering up my gift items for MOM and practiced fitting them into the flower gift box like a puzzle. The areas that are left over will be where we can put the fresh flowers.
For the Sea Themed gift box I chose these items. Wine, chocolates, snack bars and some pretty green spray roses with a blush center. I picked these things out for a favorite friend of mine that I believe to be the best MOM I know besides my MOM! I carried over the blue colors on the items packaging to go with the cool box I chose featuring a bunch of
sea creatures and even a mermaid.
And for my MOM I picked out these goodies. A wonderful red wine, some crunchy snack bars, honey roasted almonds and some milk chocolates filled with caramel. I chose these because the colors went so well with the box I'm using. Red roses and some of the green roses will be a perfect compliment to the flowery storage box.
For the fresh flowers I use instant flower foam, Oasis brand, that you can add water to. But before I added the water I located a container that fits my leftover spaces.
Here are some ideas for the containers-
*Plastic storage containers, square or rectangle works best
*Egg cartons, the small egg sections can be cut to the size you need
*Drawer organizers, those long ones that hold pens and pencils
Then you will need to cut the foam to tightly fit the container that you have chosen. Now, add some water to the floral foam. Soon, you will be ready to add a floral touch to your Flower Gift Box.
You are ready to fill with flowers. Put the flower foam filled container into the box to see just how high you can let the flowers stand. Then remove from the box and fill with the fresh flowers.
The type of flowers that you choose for your Flower Gift Box for MOM should be long lasting. Here are some I suggest
If you don't have much clearance to put in flowers when the lid is down on your box, choose flatter flowers like daisies, wax flower and mums.
Stick the flowers in straight up (remembering just how tall they can stand) and fill completely all the spaces so you don't see any of the flower foam. When you finish tip out any loose water droplets. You don't want the water to make your pretty box soggy!
Now arrange your gift items into the box, then drop in the flowers. You may have to use some tissue paper to crumple up and lift items so they can be seen better. Fill in any areas around the edges of the flowers with little snippets of greenery or small filler type flowers. Here I just went out in my garden and clipped some arborvitae branches to fill in. Works nicely and they won't wilt for a while when out of a water source.
You can build your Flower Gift Box a day before gift giving by waiting to drop in the flower section just before you head to mom's house. Keep this little flower section in the refrigerator overnight, up to 24 hours.
Your box is now ready to tie a big generous bow around. Make sure to keep your gorgeous Flower Gift Box upright so nothing inside moves from their designated positions. Set on a flat surface to avoid any rolling around of gift items inside. Tuck in a pretty card. And, "Voila!" you now have a unique and personal gift for MOM on Mother's Day.
I cannot wait until I see MOM open her box. What a surprise it will be, some of her favorite things and flowers, too!
Make sure MOM knows to not shake or tip the pretty Flower Gift Box. Just tell her there is a puppy inside! Hehehehehehehehehe!
Give your gift to MOM and watch her smile with delight! She will enjoy this Flower Gift Box today, use the contents tomorrow, and keep the pretty box forever.................... long after the flowers have wilted away!
If you have a MOM or Mother-In-Law that lives far away, this can be done with silk flowers as well. I would just suggest to not include anything that may melt or break. Pack all empty spaces with tissue and wrap well, put into a shipping box and protect with bubble wrap or packing peanuts.
Mother's are very special people and should be honored with a very special gift. Make her day the best and keep her close by, she is one of the most valuable possessions that the good Lord gave you!
Would MOM love this gift? What gift items would you add to your FLOWER GIFT BOX ? Leave me a comment. I would love to hear your ideas.
