Another cold and rainy day here in Michigan. It's been the coldest spring season I can ever remember.
Well, at least it's not snowing..........yet.
I have never been the kind of person who gets bored easily. I always have something on my mind that I am waiting to get extra time to do. But, I do have a few friends and family that suffer from occasional boredom. So here is a helpful list of things to do when that gray cloud of boredom comes your way.
1.Take in a Movie
Check out a new flick, go alone or call another movie buff to go along. Pull up the most recent movie trailers on your laptop to make the choice much easier. I'm sure you will have a list of 3 or 4 that you are interested in. I found it necessary to buy my tickets ahead for the movie I chose a couple weeks back. My grandson and I jumped in the car to see the newest movie that had just been released that weekend. We had to drive to three locations before we could get in to see it. And, we did buy ahead on the way to the third location so we would not be disappointed again.
2. Mall Walk
Put on your walking shoes and comfy clothes and start struttin' inside the warm, well lit, and amusing local mall. I do see lots of seniors doing this. Great time to go is earliest in the morning so you won't have to dart around the baby strollers. A good set of ear buds along with your favorite playlist will get you moving to the beat. Pick up a "cup of Joe" at a nearby Starbucks, every mall has one! My choice is a decaf vanilla latte. And, a plus, you can window shop as you go!
3. Start a New Hobby
Have you always wanted to watercolor paint? Crochet? Knit? Or Sew? There are lots of great tutorials on the web that will get you going. You will find that creative hobbies are very therapuetic. And the bonus is you have a nice item finished just when you are done. Keep the tools and items you need handy for the next boring rainy day. I have a nice plastic storage unit filled with paints, brushes, yarn and needles so it's easy to start my project when the mood hits me.
4. Visit a Friend
Give an old friend a call and see if they are available for a quick visit. Getting up to date with people you care about is up-lifting. Reminiscing about the past together is always fun. Before you know it you will be sharing jokes and giggles. Make sure to stop on the way to pick up flowers or a fresh pastry from the bakery.
5. Write A Letter
Remember that favorite Aunt that was so wonderful when you were growing up? Well, I'm sure she would love an update from you. Writing a letter is such a nice way to share info. I always thought writing a letter was so enjoyable, of course, as you see I love to write. Actually, it is a rainy day today while I'm writing this post. The weather here was the inspiration.
6. FaceTime, Skype or DUO
If you have a cell phone, (unless you have been hiding under a rock) you can load any one of these apps to see your kids on your cell phone screen when you are talking. I especially like the DUO app. Similar to FaceTime, but I seem to get a better connection with my android. I have used Skype also, it works quite well, too.
All are free and easy to download no matter what type of smart phone you have. When your children have moved away out of state or even an hour or more away, it is always nice to get a quick visit in. See what new pet they have, watch them dance to some music, or sing a silly song. It's just a nice way to be more a part of their everyday life.
7. Bake Something Yummy
Pull out that Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe or try my Banana Bread recipe. It will warm you up in no time at all. And, while you are at it share some with a neighbor. What goes around, comes around.
8. Cuddle Up To A Chic Flick
Grab your favorite blanket (and your sweetie) to curl up on the couch. Popcorn is optional. Pick a movie that you haven't seen in a long time. Every time I do this, I am so surprised what I originally missed in the movie. I have a great collection of treasured CDs that I could marathon watch! My all time favorite is Avatar in 3D. We put on the silly glasses and tip back in the side by side recliners. No one has to wait for it to rain to enjoy a mushy movie together.
9. Organize, Organize, Organize
Take a look at that linen closet. I'm sure that there are some old towels that could be cut up for rags in there. Handy to have around. Fold all towels so they are uniform and stop falling out every time you open the door up. And sheets, my room of thumb is one set on the bed, an extra in the closet, the rest can go! Put a sachet in between the sheets so everything will have a wonderful fresh scent next time you crawl in under them.
10. Afternoon Pampering
This is my very favorite rainy day plan! Fill the tub up with bubbles. Climb in and soak for as long as you like. Make sure to turn off the phone so you can really enjoy it without interruptions. Then pull your hair up and lather on a mud mask. Lay down on the couch with cucumber slices over you eyes and take a quick snooze Touch up your manicure and you are ready to go out on the town when the rain finally stops! If your significant other is nearby, have them do the same and then take turns giving each other foot massages. Hot tub, back rub, bear rug..............wooooohoooo. Who knows how this day will end! Hehehehehe................ You may be booking another rainy day real soon, even without the rain!!!
I hope this helps you enjoy your next rainy day!
